Wedgewood Inc. Website Creation

Challenge. Create the concept and content for Wedgewood Inc.’s first website which was targeted towards attracting potential new employees. The self-proclaimed 30-year start up headquartered in Redondo Beach, California is paving the way in the real estate and house flipping industry.

Ready? I may have grown up with the Internet but creating a website from scratch is very different. The only information we had was from a short visit to the office, some slide decks, and a few job posting examples. We decided to start our research by looking at some of our favorite websites and asking ourselves the question: What do we like about this website and why?

Set. Our research gave us some unique insights. First, all of our favorite websites had continuous scrolling. This way one never clicks off of the site and becoming distracted by the endless content on the Internet. Second, the use of rollovers, pop up blocks, and drop down menus allowed for a modern and sleek looking site without being overloaded by content. Lastly, to create a lasting and youthful first impression, one should start with a video intro.

Before we were to present, we needed to solidify our target audience for the project. Wedgewood specified that we target recent graduates looking for the Wedgewood culture. My group created Nick. He is a recent graduate at 25 years old. Nick is determined and driven to succeed but also likes to relax. He has the Wedgewood work hard, play hard type of personality. He wants to learn and build his career while using his communication skills. He’s looking for a new job but doesn’t know where to start.

Go! How else were we supposed to present website content without creating a website itself? Our Squarespace based site consisted of five sections: Our story, capabilities, our legacy, leadership and a call to action to apply for jobs. The upper management from Wedgewood were so impressed with our presentation that they implemented our ideas into their actual website.
